“É preciso construir o movimento”, “construir a adesão dos professores”, “buscar a unidade para além das disputas internas”, “construir um amplo esclarecimento da comunidade” dizia o email convocando a uma mobilização sobre a greve das universidades e suas motivações.

"We need to build the movement," "to build the adhesion of the professors," "to seek unity beyond internal disputes," "to build a comprehensive explanation for the community," said the e-mail calling for a mobilization for the universities strike and explaining its reasons.

É preciso, é preciso, é preciso – era o início de diversas frases da mensagem. O inconformismo de alguns sobre uma carência coletiva gera a greve.

We need to, we need to, we need to - this was the beginning of several sentences of the message. The discontent of some with a collective need generates the strike.

 Ela se faz também de uma rede de conversas dispersas. A mesma rede que a mensagem tentava despertar.

Strike is also produced by a network of scattered conversations. The same network that the message was trying to awaken.

Durante a passeata, uma voz toma o microfone no palanque e tenta inutilmente puxar um coro: “ho-je são cin-co, on-tem foi qua-tro e no di-a três já a-ca-bou o meu sa-lá-rio” Não era só a rima que não dava certo, alguém com os pés no chão comenta: “quando acaba só no dia três está bom demais”.

During the demonstration, a voice takes the microphone up on a stand and tries in vain to begin a chorus: "to-day is fitth, yes-ter-day was fourth and on the third my sa-laaa-ry is o-ver". Not only the rhyme did not work well. Someone with his feet on the ground commented: "when it finishes just in the third day of the month it is fine".

Uma professora passa contando que lhe perguntaram: “se você não está satisfeita, por que não muda de emprego ?”  Mas poderiam ter perguntado: “se a casa tem um problema, por que não fugir pra outra?”

A professor passes by telling that someone had asked her: "if you are not satisfied, why not change jobs?" But it could have been asked, "if the house has a problem, why not flee to another one?"

 O amigo retido no engarrafamento em São Paulo atende o telefone. Não sabia da greve das universidades federais. Ele pergunta: “Mas isso não é contraproducente?” Mas poderia também ter perguntado se o descaso com a educação pública não seria ele também contraproducente.

A friend trapped in the traffic jam in Sao Paulo picks up the cell phone. He did not know about the strike of the public universities. He asks: "But isn’t it counterproductive?" But it could also be asked whether the neglect of public education would not be counterproductive as well.

Depois de uma pausa, a voz ao celular no trânsito paulista completa: “a imprensa não fala nada sobre isso”.

After a pause, the voice driving in Sao Paulo adds: "The press says nothing about it."

Com tantas pessoas reunidas em volume crescente, a tensão aumenta na passeata.

With so many people gathered in increasing quantity,  the tension also increases in the march.

Um vidro foi quebrado no Ministério da Educação e parte da imprensa achou finalmente um assunto. O jornalista da Record denuncia o horror da violência dos manifestantes.

A glass door was broken in the Ministry of Education and the press finally found a subject. The Record TV journalist exposes the horror of the protesters violence.

Ele alega que a reportagem ouviu os assessores do ministro e eles disseram que os manifestantes sequer pediram uma audiência, mas se tivessem pedido, teriam sido atendidos.

He claims that the tv  journalists heard the minister's advisers and they said that protesters not even asked for a hearing, but if they had asked for it, they would have been received.

Nem o jornalista da Record nem os telespectadores ouviram o que os manifestantes tinham a dizer sobre a possibilidade de uma audiência.

Neither the  TV journalist nor the TV viewers heard what the protesters had to say about the possibility of a hearing.

Talvez tenham tentado ouvir, mas não conseguiram pois muito antes de o vidro ser quebrado as vozes ao microfone clamavam alto demais que um grupo de representantes tentava ser recebido no ministério e embaixo os manifestantes respondiam em coro ruidoso exigindo a audiência.

Perhaps they tried to listen to the manifestants, but could not because long before the glass door was broken there was a deafening voice crying out in the microphone that a group of representatives were trying to be received in the ministry of education while the manifestants answered with  a loud chorus demanding an audience.

Na frente do ministério da Educação, deu-se uma guerra de pimenta e pedras. No facebook, um jovem fotógrafo postou a sua  foto publicada em um jornal mostrando a polícia jogando spray de pimenta na cara dos estudantes. Era a resposta para os ataques de pedras dos estudantes.

A war of pepper and stones took place in front of the Ministery of Education. On facebook, a young photographer has posted his photo published in a newspaper showing the police throwing pepper spray in the face of the students. It was the answer to the student’s attack with stones.

Em notícia publicada em outro jornal, um aluno da UnB, Lucas Brito, declara que os estudantes que atacaram estavam revoltados com o fato de não serem atendidos pelo Ministério da Educação.

In an article published in another newspaper, a student from the University of Brasilia, Lucas Brito, says that those who attacked were angered by the fact that the Ministry of Education did not receive them.

Além de destacar a violência dos vidros quebrados, a voz da TV Record comentava também que os estudantes participaram da passeata “inconformados com a greve das universidades”.

Besides highlighting the violence of the broken glass, the voice from Record TV also commented that the students who participated in the march were "dissatisfied with the universities' strike."

Uma greve é um teatro de vozes descontentes. 

A strike is a theater of discontent voices.

Algumas vozes estão descontentes com os contentes. 

Some voices are discontented with the content ones.

Outras estão descontentes com o descontentamento alheio. 

Other voices are discontented with others’ discontent.

Parece natural que com tanto descontentamento vidros sejam quebrados. O que parece menos natural é que com tanto descontentamento a notícia seja que o vidro quebrou e não o porquê de ele ter se quebrado.

It seems natural that with so much discontent glasses are broken. What seems less natural is that with so much discontent news are limited to the broken glass and not to the reason why it was broken.

O que parece ainda menos natural é que enquanto isso as borboletas vagueiem entre plácidas flores.

What seems even less natural is that meanwhile butterflies roam among placid flowers.
