05 - Between heaven and earth, Inhumas
Na janela do hotel, em Inhumas, longe das nuvens ou bem perto delas ?
At the hotel window, in Inhumas, away from the clouds or very close to them?
Em uma esquina de Inhumas, dois cães com ares de esfinge apresentam uma parábola: de um lado, a palavra ‘Líder’ e um cão que repousa, magnânimo, à sombra e na certeza de que o dia se cumprirá; do outro lado, um cão que caminha entre letras ao léu, em busca de um rumo desconhecido.
At a corner of Inhumas, two dogs with sphinx-like demeanor present a parable: on one side, the word 'leader' and a dog that rests, magnanimous, shaded in the certainty that the day will be fulfilled; on the other side, a dog strolls by aimlessly among scattered letters in search of unknown directions.
Talvez porque a imobilidade seja incompatível com a natureza humana, inventaram, então, a roda e seus derivados: a carroça, a bicicleta, a moto, o carro, o caminhão. No entanto, há os que apenas cumprem o ciclo da roda; e há os que usam a roda pra escapar das inabaláveis certezas.
Perhaps because immobility is incompatible with human nature, the wheel and its derivatives were then invented: wagon, bike, motorcycle, car, truck. Yet, there are those who just follow the cycle of the wheel, and there are those who use the wheel to escape from unshakable certainties.
Porém, seria realmente possível escapar
e fazer alguma escolha
However, could it be possible to really escape
and make choices
ou tudo não passa do cumprimento das escolhas possíveis ?
or everything is but the accomplishment of the possible choices?
Haveria algum acaso
Could chance exist
ou uma viagem seria apenas o cumprimento das rotas previstas ?
or would a trip only be the fulfillment of expected routes ?
Por algum acaso, a caixa do supermercado olhou pra mim e suspirou:
By some chance, the cashier in the supermarket looked at me and sighed:
“Vontade de estar em outro lugar, bem longe daqui, com outra vida, outro nome.” – ela disse, sem chegar a pensar que de qualquer forma, seria sempre ela mesma.
“Wish I were somewhere else, far away from here, with another life, another name.” - she said, without realizing that, anyway, it would always be herself.
Aqui onde a natureza e os humanos parecem tão próximos, aqui onde o exótico revela o nosso próprio exotismo, aqui onde o fato de estar do lado de fora da gaiola não nos livra do risco de estar do lado de dentro dela, uma pergunta se impõe:
Here where nature and humans seem to be so close to each other, here where the exotic reveals our own exoticism, here where the fact of being outside the cage does not relieve us from the risk of being inside it, a question arises:
haverá livre arbítrio?
does free will exist?
Inhumas é nome de um pássaro, símbolo de Goiás, mas ao escutar apenas o som da palavra, soa suspeito aquele prefixo in- indicando negação e também a proximidade de -nhumas com lhufas. Porém, duas negações sobrepostas resultam em uma afirmação, e assim Inhumas resiste, igual e diferente das cidades goianas em volta, igual e diferente do que os olhos estão predispostos a ver.
Inhumas is the name of a bird that is the symbol of the State of Goiás, but hearing just the sound of the word, both the in- prefix and the proximity between -nhumas and nothing indicate denial. However, two overlapped denials result in a claim, and thus Inhumas resists, being like and being different from other cities around Goias, similar to and diverse from what the eyes are predisposed to see.
