4 - Wandering around a lake 

 Vencidos os obstáculos e devolvida alguma rigidez aos corpos, as pedras revelam a sua camuflada maleabilidade. 


 

   Once the obstacles are overcome and the bodies achieve some stiffness, the stones reveal their hidden malleability.

  Surgem formas como se algum escultor astuto tivesse deixado a sua obra camuflada na paisagem.

   Forms emerge as if some clever sculptor had left his work camouflaged in the landscape.

 

   Em meio à elevação das árvores, grandes pedregulhos expõem a imponência do seu peso.

   Amid rising trees, large block of rock expose the grandeur of its weight.

    E nova pausa se faz, entre o lago e inusitado ângulo reto.

    And another break is made between the lake and unexpected right angle.

   Curiosa passagem do tempo, essa que esculpe superfícies quentes e planas. Aqui jaz uma natureza-morta-viva, imóvel e prenhe do tempo que a talhou.

   Curious passage of time, the one that carves warm flat surfaces. Here lies an unstill-still-life. It is motionless and pregnant with the time that sculpted it.

   Uma bola de pedra desceu de alguma altura distante e deixou-se ficar aqui. Foi o mais próximo de um círculo que esse fragmento de memória do solo conseguiu chegar. Imóvel, a pedra agora deixa que seja o sol quem role sobre ela.

   A stone ball fell from a far away height and lies over here. It was the closest to a circle that this fragment of the ground memory could reach. Motionless, it now lets the sun be the one who rolls over it.

   Novas combinações de curvas e retas teriam sido também testadas pelo escultor oculto. Um lento e violento movimento do tempo rebelou-se contra o peso tectônico e impôs-lhe a aparência de tronco inclinado sujeito às intempéries. 

   The missing sculptor would have also tested new combinations of curves and straight lines. A slow and violent movement of time rebelled against the tectonic weight and imposed to it the appearance of a tilted trunk subject to adversities.

   

  O escultor anônimo gosta também de trabalhar com o vazio. Para confirmar a sólida dureza, ele prefere ângulos retos. Suas peças, no entanto, são uma espécie de maculada completude suscetível ao corte, a curvas, a diagonais ou à própria incompletude. Ele faz assim suas pedras transitarem do ser ao estar.

   The anonymous sculptor likes working also with the void. To make fullness even more solid and confirm its hardness, he prefers right angles. His pieces, however, are a kind of marred completeness susceptible to cutting, curves, diagonals or to incompleteness itself. This is how he adds a quality of contingency to the stones.

   Embora rigorosamente plana, e pedra está na diagonal – outro sintoma do movimento contido na sua aparente inércia. Há, porém, muito mais inquietação nesse mundo quieto.

   Sem nunca ter estado oculta, uma outra existência começa a surgir permeando a pesada dureza pétrea. Algo que se imiscui nas adjacências e nos poros das pedras adquire a clareza de cristais.

   Despite its rigorous flatness, the stone is diagonally placed - another symptom of the motion contained in its alleged inertia. There is much more unrest, though, in this restful world.

    Without having ever been hidden, another existence begins to appear permeating the stone’s heavy toughness. Something that meddles in the vicinity and in the pores of the stones becomes crystal clear.
